Release date:

Subscription Wi-Fi networks are public Wi-Fi networks requiring a subscription or payment to use. Subscription Wi-Fi networks are often found at coffee shops, Internet cafes, airports, and other public locations that don't offer free Wi-Fi networks. In some countries, they are sponsored and maintained by wireless carriers. (For example, AT&T wireless hotspots in Starbucks locations).
When using iPhone OS 3.0 or later, your iPhone or iPod touch can remember the Wi-Fi networks to which you subscribe. It will automatically connect and log in to the Wi-Fi network when you are in range.
Note: The features and troubleshooting steps above may not be applicable to devices sold in certain countries including China. Please see iPhone or iPod touch technical specifications and this article for more information.

iPod nano (1st generation): Rare cases of battery overheating

Release date:

Apple has determined that in very rare cases, batteries in the iPod nano (1st generation) sold between September 2005 and December 2006, may overheat and prevent the iPod nano from working and deform it.
Apple has received very few reports of such incidents, and the issue has been traced to a single battery supplier. Additionally, there have been no reports of such incidents with any other iPod nano model. If your battery shows signs of overheating, such as discoloration or deformity, stop using the iPod nano immediately and contact AppleCare as soon as possible for further assistance.

iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery

Release date:

iPhone and iPod touch have an internal rechargeable battery. To charge the battery, choose one of the options below:

Connect the device to your computer (not your keyboard) using the included cable to charge the battery and sync. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If the device is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Connect iPhone or iPod touch to a power outlet using the included cable and a USB power adapter to charge the battery.

Note: iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (2nd generation), and iPod touch (Late 2009) do not support FireWire and will not charge from any FireWire-based power source. If you connect either of these devices to a FireWire-based charger or accessory, you will receive the alert screen below:

"Charging is not supported with this accessory."

How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

Release date:

Got a new computer and want to move your entire iTunes library? With iTunes 8 or later there is a backup feature that will archive your entire library to CD or DVD, including ratings and playcounts, which can be moved to another computer. If you are interested in moving your library using this method click, here.
Home Sharing in iTunes 9 is another option that enables you to move your iTunes library. You can stream and transfer music, videos, and more with up to five other computers on your local network with no need to burn discs; click here to learn how.
If you do not have access to a CD or DVD burner then there is another option if you own an iPod. Because your iPod contains a high-capacity drive, you can use it to move all your music from your old computer to the new one (however, this document does not apply to iPod touch).
Note: While you can use the Transfer Purchases from iPod option under the File menu to copy iTunes Store purchases from the iPod to another computer, you can't transfer songs from other sources from the iPod library to iTunes, so you'll need to follow the steps below to use iPod as a hard disk to transfer music files from one computer to another. This process will require the use of iTunes 7 or later on all computers. Any computers running iTunes 6 or earlier will need to be updated to follow these steps. Download the latest version of iTunes here. Once you have the files transferred, you'll need to authorize any iTunes Store content. If you won't be using your old computer, you'll want to deauthorize it.
Important: Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats), so you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod to move your music to a Windows PC. See "iPod: How to determine iPod's hard disk format" if you're not sure what format your iPod is.
